Get introduced to a lifetime of fun and adventure with geocaching! Discover the skill of geocaching, GPS navigation and how it works, fun geocaching events, and how to do everything safely. You will also get to try your hand at hiding and finding geocaches!

Recommended for grades 8-12. Parents or scout leaders must supervise their children or scouts at all times during this program.

Boys and girls, scouts and non-scouts are welcome.

$10/attendee; chaperones are free.

Advance registration required by Feb. 6 by clicking here.

Boy Scouts are prepared! Boy Scouts are required to read the entire Geocaching merit badge pamphlet (not just the requirements) – some pamphlets can be found online for free after a quick search. All of the answers to the prerequisites can be found in the merit badge pamphlet. Unprepared Scouts will find it difficult to understand the geocaching concepts without reviewing the merit badge pamphlet ahead of time.

Due to the complexity of the geocaching topic and to give us more hands-on activity time during the workshop, scouts should email, mail, or drop off their workbooks with the completed prerequisites AND their blue cards at least 4 days before the workshop. The scouts who do this will be given priority when signing off on blue cards. Scouts who are unable to complete the prerequisites in advance are welcome to attend but they will have a difficult time understanding the concepts.

Email: mccloudnp@hcparks.net

Drop off: Fridays-Saturdays, 10 am-4 pm, McCloud Nature Park, 8518 Hughes Road, North Salem, IN 46165

Every attempt will be made to complete all merit badge requirements during the workshop (if the scout has completed the prerequisites). Merit badges are not given out at the workshop; however, all participants will receive a special Hendricks County Parks Nature Challenge badge!

Bring your BSA Geocaching merit badge book, your completed workbook pages with the prerequisites (if not submitted in advance), a snack, and water bottle. Wear comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots and dress for the weather as we will be outside for most of the workshop. If you have not submitted your completed workbook pages with the prerequisites in advance, please bring them to the workshop. The workbook can be downloaded from https://meritbadge.org/wiki/images/1/17/Geocaching.pdf. All other equipment and supplies are provided.
