Trained wildland fire professionals set the McCloud prairie on fire every couple of years. Why do we burn the prairie? How is a prescribed burn conducted? Why are some burns in the fall and some in the spring? Learn how this practice invigorates plants and increases biodiversity when implemented every couple of years. (We will not be conducting a burn during this program, although the prairie IS scheduled to be burned in April or May of 2019.) Join us for an optional hike in prairie afterwards.
Hiking terrain info: Easy to moderate difficulty; gravel and natural surfaces; up to 1 mile.
For the optional hike, children younger than 16 must attend with a parent or guardian who is able to hike the trails.
This program is appropriate for all ages, FREE to attend, and no advance registration required.
