DESCRIPTION:Decorate your bike\, scooter\, stroller\, or wheelchair and let’s go for a ride on the Vandalia Trail! Show off your creativity and then join a naturalist and community partners for an easy bike ride along the paved trail. The parade begins at 4 p.m.\, so decorate your ride in advance\, or arrive early to decorate it at the Amo trailhead with supplies that our naturalist will bring! \nParticipants are strongly recommended to wear helmets. The trip will consist of a 1.5-mile ride out from the start and a 1.5-mile return for a total of three miles. Participants may turn back at any point along the trail if they would like to return sooner. Modern ADA-accessible restrooms and water fountains are available at the Amo trailhead but not at the turn-around point. Dress for the weather and bring a water bottle. \nBIKING TERRAIN INFO: EASY LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY\, MOSTLY FLAT PAVED TRAIL\, UP TO 3 MILES. \nAPPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES. Regardless of age\, interests\, abilities\, we all need nature. Come to one or come to them all to experience the beauty of Hendricks County Parks! While each program will be appropriate for all ages\, please note the terrain for each location so that your capability will make the time enjoyable for you. If you need to stretch those legs\, but you have a baby—bring the stroller on Friday or Saturday. Need an accessible trail? With the peak of color due at about this time\, the fall foliage should abound. Brush up on your tree identification skills and enjoy a folk tale or two. Bring good shoes\, a water bottle\, and a camera. The hike will go to the Crittenden Creek Bridge (approximately 1 mile) and back; however\, you can return on your own to the Amo trailhead at any point…or continue on without the naturalist.  \nHiking terrain info: easy level of difficulty; paved ADA-accessible trail; up to 2 miles.  \nAPPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center\, then first ride east to the current east end of Plainfield’s Vandalia Trail\, followed by a return trip through Plainfield\, then on to county roads to Hendricks County Parks & Recreation’s Vandalia Trail through the towns of Amo and Coatesville to the Putnam County Line. During the return\, riders will have refreshment options in Coatesville\, Amo\, or at many places back in Plainfield. SUMMARY:Autumn Bike with a Biologist and a Birder
DESCRIPTION:Grab your bike and head over to Amo to meet your DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife biologist\, Erin Basiger\, and wildlife biologist and passionate birder\, Simon Davies. Participants will have an opportunity to learn about and identify invasive species during the bike ride. In addition\, participants will view various wildlife habitats and their wildlife occupants. \nThe bike trip will consist of a 1.5-mile ride out from the Amo trailhead and a 1.5-mile return ride\, for a total of three (3) miles. Participants may turn around at any point along the trail if they would like to return sooner. Modern restrooms and water fountains are available at the Amo trailhead but not at the turn-around point. Dress for the weather and bring a water bottle. \nSee page 3 for trailhead address.
