DESCRIPTION:You can add to a century of citizen science data by participating in the Jamestown area bird count! With experienced birder Roger Hedge and others\, you will count all birds heard and seen. This data will be complied by the Audubon Society and will be used by scientists to measure bird populations. Birders of all levels are welcome to participate. Start at McCloud Nature Park and continue to cover the rest of the Jamestown area if you wish.\n \nCOVID precautions: Birders need to drive separately to locations. While birding participants will need to wear a mask and/or socially distance. SUMMARY:Homeschool Ecology Series: Winter Survival
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Indiana DNR\nAnimals use different strategies to survive the winter and younger homeschool students will explore these methods through hands-on activities. Students will stay warm building shelters to mimic animal homes\, playing games\, and looking for signs of wildlife while walking trails. \nFor younger siblings (ages 6-11) of students registered in the Homeschool Ecology Series\, there will be a separate lesson on a similar topic offered concurrently for just $5 per child per session. These lessons have been created specifically for the younger students and are restricted to siblings of registered students in the Homeschool Ecology Series. Parents or guardians must attend with the younger siblings\, as this is not a drop-off program. \nFee: $10/person. \nRecommended for ages 12-18. \nAdvance registration required by Feb. 21. DESCRIPTION:Are you and your four-legged friend tired of the same old walk? Take a winter walk at McCloud Nature Park with one of our naturalists! We will be blazing a path for our frosty paws together. During the hike\, we will find out what your K-9’s ancestor\, the coyote\, is doing during the winter months. Please dress for the weather. Participating dogs must be friendly with other dogs. All dogs at McCloud are required to be on a leash.   \nHiking terrain info: easy to moderate level of difficulty\, gravel and natural surfaces\, up to 1 mile.    \nAppropriate for all ages. Children younger than 16 years of age must attend with a parent or guardian who is able to hike the trails. \nFREE to attend. No advance registration required. \nApproximate program duration: 1 hour.
