SUMMARY:Prescribed Prairie Burn
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Deb Stukenborg\nTurner Forestry will be conducting a prescribed burn of the 52-acre prairie at McCloud Nature Park on Monday\, March 29. The crew will arrive at the park at about 11 a.m.\, and the burn takes a few hours to complete. \nPrescribed burns are part of normal prairie maintenance. They assist greatly in controlling non-native invasive plants and improving biodiversity of native plants. \nWe normally burn the prairie every 3 years or so\, but with the prairie going 4 years between burns in 2020\, Turner Forestry recommends that we burn again in 2021. \nTo learn more about our 2020 prairie burn\, why we burn\, and how quickly the prairie comes back\, click here. \nThe park will remain OPEN during the prairie burn\, although traffic along the entrance road may be restricted at times\, depending on which part of the prairie is being burned at that time. \nGuests are welcome to come to the park and watch the burn\, but we ask that everyone keep a good distance between themselves and the fire and crew for everyone’s safety. Parking in the Nature Center parking lot will protect your vehicle.

SUMMARY:Virtual Animal Tales: The Moon Saw It All
DESCRIPTION:Normally our park naturalists come to your local library each month to share a story about a native animal and a related craft or activity with preschool through upper elementary age children. This program is FREE to attend.\n \nThese resources are available at any time\, since this is not a live program.\n \nCheck our Facebook page as the first full week of the month approaches for a Facebook event regarding this month’s Virtual Animal Tales program. In the Discussion tab of the Event\, you will find a variety of resources relating to this month’s story.\n \nIn April\, we were going to read this book in-person: The Moon Saw It All by Nancy L. Young. This book is available at many local libraries\, and some even have this available in a digital format.\n \nSummary:\nEver wonder what animals do after dark? They dance the night away at a critter ball thrown for one and all! Children revel in a dreamy moonlit world where bobcats sing soulful songs\, javelina click hooves on tortoise shell roofs\, and coatimundis drum right along at a critter ball thrown for one and all.\n \nTo view the entire Animal Tales schedule\, click here.
