Jennifer Davies has been turning old metal knitting needles and crochet hooks into whimsical jewelry and accessories for 8 years under the name of Bur Oak Studio. She was inspired by the knitters in her family\, including her mom and step-mom. Modern knitters lean towards wood/bamboo needles and hooks\, but most have some of the old styles-like the ones we all learned on! The scene of the crime is the “Gray Area\,” a watershed that includes forests\, a city\, a town\, a coast\, three rivers\, a lake\, and a pond. Student sleuths are challenged to identify the culprit by assessing the statements of various suspects\, analyzing reference materials and files\, and conducting water quality tests. \nParents of the students may also register as participants for $10/session if they want to participate in the activities with the older students. Pretty soon\, we have bottles of 100% all-natural maple syrup!  \nHow do we know which trees to use? How do we collect the sap? Do the sugar maple trees die afterwards? How do we turn that natural sweetness into syrup? How has maple syrup been made in the past? How is syrup made today?  \nIf any of these questions have crossed your mind\, or your kids’ minds\, come on out to McCloud Nature Park in early March and join us in discovering the rich\, deliciousness of maple sugaring\, at our 13th Annual McCloud Maple Syrup Days!
